Last Call Alan lost his job as a real estate agent and began drinking heavily, despite the fact that he had a wife and two daughters to worry about. He slipped into a severe depression, using bourbon to wash his shame away, and his wife found him passed out from alcohol poisoning one late December night. She rushed him to the emergency room where he was treated for the poisoning, and one of his nurses had just lost her husband to liver cancer. Thin Thread: The nurse regales Alan with tales of her husband and his slow descent into alcoholic oblivion, and as Alan sobs in his hospital bed, she tells him what she wished her husband had done before it was too late.
